Bangkok Insurance Public Company Limited was formerly registered as a limited company on 15 April 1947 under the name of Asia Insurance Company Limited with the logo depicting “the seagull flying in the circle" and the abbreviation in English “AIL” at the bottom. The seagull was used in the logo because of the Company beginning its insurance operations with marine insurance. Back then, vessels were used to carry passengers and cargo and the ship navigators used seagulls as a sign to indicate that the ship was close to the shore and almost reached the destination while the people and assets onboard were safe. The circle means connected business networks in the era of globalization. This logo was designed by Mr. Prasit Kanchanawat.
1961 - 1963
In 1961, a change was made to the logo by adding the English full name of the Company “Asia Insurance Company Limited” and the corresponding name in Chinese inside the circle while the symbol of the seagull flying inside the circle remained unchanged.
1964 - 1971
In 1964, Asia Insurance Company Limited was renamed to Bangkok Insurance Company Limited. As such, another change was made to the logo by Mr. Prasit Kanchanawat through adjusting the seagull drawing to be more delicate and improving the clarity of the map of Thailand, as well as adding the Company’s names in 3 languages, namely Thai, Chinese, and English. Intricately detailed patterns were also added within the circle.
1972 - 1986
In 1972 or 8 years later, the trends of modern business at that time focused on simplicity. Mr. Chai Sophonpanich, then assuming the position of Senior Executive Vice President, decided to make another change to the logo while keeping the seagull symbol unchanged.
1987 – present
Until 1987, the Company had been in business for 40 years and therefore had modernized and simplified the logo while keeping the meaning unchanged. The new logo depicts the seagull flying above the waves inside the blue circle. The blue color and the waves refer to the sea, a symbol of the origin of the Company’s business – marine insurance. The circle refers to connected global networks in the era of globalization. Furthermore, the new logo gives a dynamic feeling of the business’ constantly evolving and improving nature.
